With a tiny budget intended to fight graffiti, we remodeled a rundown city building by applying half-rounds of inexpensive fence posts to the buildings exterior. The half-timber design incorporates the ramshackle geometry of the buildings existing doors and windows to establish a new architectural rhythm. The resulting wood frames are filled with flat colors and illustrations. Sponsored by the Luggage Store Gallery, 1997.

Collaborators in the restoration include visual artists Fred Hayes and Carolyn Costano, neighborhood volunteers and local teens who receive stipends to work over spring break when working conditions are ideal.
